Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

Absolutely love it. If you’re on the fence, just go for it. You will not be disappointed. As an outdoor Ed instructor it’s super cool to be able to bring a hammock on our outings no matter where we camp to be able to show different camping options. If there was a way to add a sixth star, I would.

Just recieved my Turtlebug Camper on Monday Sept. 12th. Slept in it at home the first night then used it in the wild Wednesday til Saterday. AWESOME! Wish I could have given it a 10 star rating. The only complaint I have with it is that it took longer to remove the shrink wrap than to assemble it out of the box. Looking forward to using it camping when the trees aren't the "perfect" distance apart. Iike Ron Popiel used to say "set it, and forget it". Got the perfect lay without any finegaling.

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

I have used the Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand on 2-3 scout campouts and it has been AMAZING. It has been so nice to not have to worry about finding trees or worry about driving stakes into hard camp sites. I have a Tensa4 and that thing works great as long as you can drive stakes or find two somethings to anchor to. At some camp sites that isn't possible without being completely separated from your group. The Turtlebug has solved that for me and is extremely well made. I did have a minor issue with one of the metal cables that tension the tarp extensions where the metal cable end came uncrimped, but I was using the hammock stand un-anchored and had a tarp on the tarp extensions but not ground anchored and the wind blew over the whole thing when we were out doing scout activities and pulled out the crimp. I purchased a replacement set - since I feel it was my fault with the improper setup, and everything has been great since. I would definitely recommend this hammock stand over the Tensa4 - especially for peace of mind on where you set it up. The Tensa4 is probably better on a slope or on a few specfic use cases, but for me the Turtlebug is a winner. The photo is a Dutchwear Chameleon 12ft Wide hammock and I use the end tripods to hang my backpack and shoes and stuff off to keep them out of the dirt and keep the creepy crawlies off my stuff. Pretty awesome setup!

This stand is incredible. No more messing with hammock suspension to get it “just right.” Honestly I was only planning to use it for traveling through desert, but after a weekend test run in the ozarks, I think the turtlebug will become a permanent part of my moto camp. For reference, I am using it with a warbonnet blackbird xlc and it fits perfectly.

I was pleased to experience the joy of the Turtlebug while working on the ranch last week. Setup was great. Packabililty was phenomenal, especially compared to much more cumbersome stands that I have been using. It weathered some pretty solid winds and rain without a problem. Thanks for a great product!

Customer photo review of Cricket 2.0 Hammock Stand (Ultralight)

I have the Turtlebug, the original Cricket, and almost passed on this. So glad I didn't! I now have my lightest go-to stand for hanging my beloved AMOK without trees when hiking and/or inside if needed while traveling. The engineering and thought that went into improving and updating the original Cricket was well worth the purchase for me. As a 70-plus youngster, the weight and ease of setup are awesomely beneficial. Thanks, Cal and Kristen, for your help and support. You guys are next level Ken

The “How to Videos” are definitely a BIG HELP when sitting the stand up. I’m pretty sure the set up time will decrease as I set this stand up more. The ridge line is not as taught as when hanging a hammock between trees, but as I understand when using the Yobogear ridge poles, you do not have as taught of a ridge line. Its great that you don’t need trees nearby to swing comfortably in your hammock. Thanks so much for them helpful videos with your tips and tricks. Happy Hanging Everyone 😁

Store owner replied: Thank you for this review Marv! We're glad you're happy with the stand and found the videos helpful. Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand (No Tarp Kit) | Imperfect Collection ❤️‍🩹

My Turtlebug stand arrived at the start of a 24 hour shift as a Paramedic on an ambulance, so I took it with me to unbox and assemble during downtime. After I had it assembled, I had my hammock with me in the trunk of my car, so I decided to see how well it fit. Then I figured that since it was all set up, I might as well use it for sleeping overnight. It was easily the most comfortable I've ever been while on duty. I have now started bringing it to work on every 24 hour shift, practicing setup/teardown and getting to spend more time in my hammock. I love it!

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

It was a wonderful weekend away with the Turtle Bug, a Amok Dramr and a Hennessey Hammock Hex Tap with homemade poles to create a canopy. It was fantastic to pull it out and it almost put itself together. No more struggling with poles and sleeves. The gentle shifting as I rolled over was no concern at all and I slept like a baby. I wish I had room in my house to set this up. It would become my regular bed!! 😂 fantastic Product. I Highly recommend.

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

As a hammocking backpacker, I was ecstatic to see a mobile hammock stand that collapses easily into the case. I personally broke it down by three sections, the stands and the top pole. This method requires keeping the green buttons handy. My one mistake was taking backpacking sized tent stakes. The small stakes weren't adequate in the soils I camped in. Next time, I'll bring spikes and a hammer. One thing I loved about this kit is the ability to point myself into the wind which I had to do several times on a roadtrip through Wyoming. I also am getting a wider tarp. My regular hammock tarps are to short on the sides for confidence in a rain storm.

Was downsizing from another popular hammock stand that was bulky and heavy to transport camping-set up in my garage and it worked great with my existing hammock-YouTube videos were very helpful and I was able to get it broken down and back in the bag-excited to take it on my next camping trip as I never go without my hammock but now I have more packing room and less weight to deal with!

I’ve set it up four times now. It still takes me some time to get the poles into the hub so that they are seated correctly.

Cricket 2.0 Hammock Stand (Ultralight)

Store owner replied: Thank you so much for the 5 stars Darcy! One trick to get the poles into the hubs are to lay your two ridge pieces on the ground in a diamond shape with the tips touching on both ends. Leave the tips touching and everything as flat on the ground as possible when inserting the poles into the hubs. This should help a lot!

Finally had a chance to get out and use my gear on a 15-day trip from Georgia, USA up the East Coast into Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Canada. Bear Hunting and Lake Trout fishing at Long Lake Adventures. 5-7 nights in an Amok hammock and Yobogear Turtlebug. Turtle bug was amazing. Set up easily and packed away easily. Very quality gear and high confidence level when using it right out of the bag. Thanks for a great product. Pictures are from mouth of the Magaguadavic river, Bay of Fundy New Brunswick. At the mouth of the Magaguadavic River (in the Passamaquoddy Bay), the tidal level change from high to low tide averages between 7.5 to 8.5 meters (24 to 28 feet). While the upper headwaters of the broader Bay of Fundy can reach world-record tide changes of up to 16 meters (53 feet), the western end near St. George and the Magaguadavic River mouth experiences about half of that maximum range. Even at 8 meters, it is still an incredibly dramatic shift that happens twice every day, causing the river's lower estuary to drastically drain and refill every six hours. Eric Underwood

The cricket 2.0 worked great. When it first came in the mail, it was missing the tarp poles, but YOBOGear got me the parts quickly. The customer service is amazing. I do still have a few things to work out. My normal set up on trees is: tree straps, carabiners and climbing rings with a Hennessy. I am going to need to reassess, as that is just a bit to long for the stand. If I were to do a normal lashing, there would be plenty of room. I do love the stand and the company!

Customer photo review of Hive Hammock Stand

I’m a huge YOBOgear fan, already owning their Freedom stand and original Cricket (which I sacrificed to another hanger once my Hive arrived and I was waiting for the Cricket 2.0 to arrive…then the TurtleBug came out to scratch the itch while I waited longer for cricket). My daughter had never hammock camped, so we packed up my granddaughters and all of my hammocks and stands for a weekend adventure.

Customer photo review of Cricket 2.0 Hammock Stand (Ultralight)

My treasure for traveling by flight. I don’t care how nice a hotel resort bed may be…it’s not the same luxury I get in a hammock after sleeping in one full time for over 2 years. It fits in my 45L carryon so I’m never separated from it. I use the compartments of the 45L for my topquilt, underquilt, and neck pillow. The hard side of the case is for my Cricket, hammock, and travel sheet. I call it my bed in a bag.

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

I got this while waiting for my Cricket 2.0 UL because I travel prepared to hammock sleep (I’ve been full time hammock sleeping over 2 years) and my Tensa4 didn’t always fit in hotel rooms but always worked for compact packing and carryon travel. TurtleBug is something I always recommend to inquiring minds that are curious about hammock camping or hammock sleeping. Even when I set up my Cricket, I push folks to the TurtleBug to not scare them away from their curiosity because they just don’t understand price points (like I didn’t when I was starting out). I love my TurtleBug.

Customer photo review of Cricket 2.0 Hammock Stand (Bridge)

Simple setup, fits the Town's End Big Guy perfectly! Although I’ve had the Cricket 2.0 for nearly six months, I never got around to setting it up until today, and I'm happy to report it’s just as easy as they make it look in the video. I’m using a Town's End Big Guy Bridge hammock with it. The only minor "modification" required was making a 3-to-4-inch continuous loop, which I tied through the three eyes (the two sides and the ridgeline) on each end of the hammock. That turned out to be the perfect length to loop over the top of the tarp pole and catch on the part sticking out of the bottom. For the stand itself, I extended the legs to full length, though I might be able to drop it down a notch or two at most. While I haven’t spent the night in it just yet, I’ve got it completely dialed in now. It's great knowing exactly what to do when I need to use it in anger. It even fit back in it's bag, and we all know how that can go, it comes out the first time and never goes back in.... not here, went back in with minimal effort. Highly recommend.

I finally got to motocamp with the Turtlebug. I loved it. I no longer need to carry a tent, “just in case”. Setup was easy as well as take down. I'm glad that I added the anchors for protection from the wind. It definitely came in handy. Now my wife wants one too.

I love this stand. I've wanted a truly packable, high capacity stand that didn't rely on stakeouts for its structural integrity for years and thing does all that and more. I'm a big guy and this stand feels rock solid with me in it. My dream of hammocking on the beach near my house is finally a reality. Everyone is super jealous of my setup. I refuse to tell anyone how much I paid for it. I know it was worth every penny and more.

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

Looking a lighter weight stand does not break the bank. The Turtle Bug does it. Got one for my wife and one for me. I am 72 and have no problem picking up the assembled stand and moving it where needed. Have tried it with a variety of three and four season tarps in sizes of 10 ft to 13 feet long and they fit. The only complaint I have is how the tarps attach to tarp pole. To solve the problem I took two Stainless Steel split rings / key rings and attached them to each other. The small slip ring just fits over the silver end of the tarp pole end and can not slide over the larger black larger section of pole and the larger slit ring makes it easy to attach a micro binner to hold the tarp. I then used several heat shrink tubes on the silver tip end part of the tarp pole to keep the split rings from sliding off. They can be removed but they will not just slide off. I made up about a dozen extras to keep in the storage back. The tarps I have tested so far on the stands are a 13ft Warbonnet Super Fly and 11 ft Mamajamba; a Underground Quilt 13 Dr Winter Dream, OES McCat tarp, Wilderness Logics Old Man Winter, and some 13 ft DIY tarps

Customer photo review of Turtlebug Camper Hammock Stand

So, I previously left a review that was 4 stars. My hammocks - all 11 foot - were not working well with the stand. For the record, I have a couple of lower end hammocks and a Dutchware Chameleon with 9 inch continuous loops. I use the Chameleon with Spider Straps and Beetle Buckles, but I didn't use my straps on the stand. To get anything approaching a really good lay, I was so far off the deck my feet couldn't reach the ground trying to get out of my hammock (granted, I'm 5'1" so there is that). The other hammocks have similar connectors, though I have them set up for slightly different straps. I did try the daisy chains in the beginning and had really bad results with it - mostly because of the length of the CLs around the cinch end of my hammocks. Now - I've been dumped more than once using daisy chains (stitching failure) so I don't trust them at all. I prefer cinch buckles. I haven't tried Whoopie Slings yet. I did try hanging off the CLs and that was a little better, but not stellar. I still had calf ridge and couldn't get a really comfortable diagonal/flat lay. I tried the various tricks given in YOBO's video tutorials to adjust my hang on the stand with varying levels of success that were a little better but not great. I decided to get a dedicated hammock set up for the stand as I will be using it for campgrounds and some other events this summer, so I got the One Wind netted hammock and 12 foot tarp bundle on Amazon (highly recommend, btw, hammock has higher end features for an affordable price) I set it up this morning using the cinch straps included with the hammock. Yes, I know, YOBO doesn't recommend that, but I do NOT trust daisys. The hang in the One Wind was very good and I was easily able to adjust my head end lower with the cinch buckle suspension. I was able to use the Whoopie sling Continuous Ridgeline to adjust my ridgeline tension (so much easier than using a 'biner) and I was able to achieve one of the best diagonal lays I've experienced in a hammock to date. In addition, I was able to reach the ground using the One Wind to get out. Since I can't update my previous review (or I can't figure out how) I'm leaving a new review. Thanks YOBO, for a great product.

Quick setup! However, I need to figure out how to do it solo in the wind. I was doing great until I started staking the tarp and once one side was anchored, the other end toppled. It's always windy in SD and I'm sure if next time if I stake down the tripods first it will work better (or the middle of my tarp instead of the ends). I wish the straps were skinnier, I'm nervous they'll slip off the stand. I'm going to order continuous loops or dog bones (depending on the length I decide on) from Dutch. Maybe there's a future improvement to use amsteel or some other narrow option from the package. Overall it's a great stand! Worked great on uneven terrain. Slightly heavier than my swiftlet, but I no longer have to remove my ridgeline and make other adjustments between trees and stand. I debated this vs trekking treez and went for speed of set up (at this stage I'm setting up then getting kids set up and not really backpacking anymore so time was worth the weight). I'm super pumped for the next trip in a couple weeks!

Store owner replied: Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave this review. We are glad that you're overall happy with the addition to your camping gear. A couple things that may be helpful: 1) When setting up in wind, we always stake the stand down *before* putting any piece of fabric on it. That way it can't go anywhere when you attach the hammock & tarp. 2) We do sell some much thinner dyneema daisy chain straps on our website that work awesome with Turtlebug. I'm not sure if this link will work here, but you can copy/paste if it's not active: https://yobogear.com/products/daisy-chain-straps-24-set-of-2 Happy hammocking!

Customer photo review of Cricket 2.0 Hammock Stand (Regular)

My wife and I ordered two of the Cricket 2.0's and we absolutely love them. Out of the bag the first stand went up like a dream. It was straight forward, easy to assemble and had no issues. The first stand has light grey leg tensioning lines between the legs and, dark grey tensioning lines from the legs to the ridge poles. The reason for the 3 stars is because of the second stand. When we stated assembly we noticed the color of the tensioning lines was reversed but only on the legs with end tension lines. Light for the ridge tension and dark for the end leg tension. This should not have mattered but either the lower cable loop for the end leg tension or the cable loop for the ridge tension line was on the wrong side of one of the legs. No matter which end or which side of the end we put the leg one of the loops was going to be in the wrong position. Since the lower end tension loop was glued in place we fished the upper ridge tensioning loop out of the leg and moved it to the other side of the pole. Once this was done everything went together as it should. I do still wish the second stand's color coding of the tension lines matched the first stand (all ridge lines dark grey and end leg tension lines light grey.) The hodgepodge mix of the two makes it less intuitive especially in low light conditions when you're trying to build a bed for the night.

Store owner replied: Hi Shane! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your concerns. We didn't start out color-coding the leg cordage, but only recently decided to start doing so.
